Walid Regragui, who led Morocco to a historic semi-final in the 2022 World Cup, officially left his post after losing in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations. Even though he’s had some great offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia, the 50-year-old expert says he wants to keep going in Europe. I’ve heard from a couple of people in the know that Regragui is already in talks with a few clubs in the English Premier League (EPL) and Spanish La Liga. The coach is more interested in ambitious sports projects in top leagues than in financial benefits in the Middle East.
Walid Regragui has finished his work with the Moroccan national team. According to Foot Mercato, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation has accepted his resignation.
As we all know, the head coach asked to leave after the team’s loss in the African Cup of Nations final.
Regragui is now planning to move on from national teams and is hoping to lead a European club. Apparently, the coach is in talks with teams in the Premier League and La Liga. The Moroccan has already turned down offers from Saudi Arabia because he’d rather be part of a sporting project in Europe.
Regragui took charge of the Moroccan national team in August 2022 and led the African side to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in the winter, where they lost to France (0-2) and then Croatia in the bronze medal match (1-2). Back in January, the Moroccans were so close to winning the CAN, but it wasn’t to be as Brahim Diaz missed a penalty in regular time, with Senegal celebrating a 0-1 victory.
