I’m delighted to tell you that Liverpool’s Hugo Ekitike has made club history by becoming the first player in over 20 years to score 10 goals in his debut Premier League season. The Frenchman did this after scoring twice in the 24th round match against Newcastle (4:1). The last player to do that was Michael Owen in the 2000/01 season. Ekiti, who joined Liverpool from Eintracht for €80 million in the summer of 2025, was 23 years and 225 days old at the time.
Sky Sports says the forward got to this milestone in the 24th round of the English Premier League against Newcastle, scoring twice and helping the Merseysiders win 4-1. Thanks to these two goals, the Frenchman got to ten goals in his first season in the Premier League. It took him 21 matches to achieve this.
So, Ekiti is the youngest Liverpool player since the 2000/01 season to achieve this milestone. The last player to do that was Michael Owen, who scored 16 goals in 28 league games in that season when he was 21 years and 138 days old.
At the age of 23 years and 225 days, Ekitike equalled the legendary striker’s record. Do you remember that in the summer of 2025, the Merseysiders got the French striker from Eintracht for €80 million?
