After the 22-year-old player scored the winning penalty that gave his team an amazing victory, one of the Marseille fans sent him horrible messages and death threats. Toulouse Football Club also condemned the attack and said that they fully support their player. They also said that they don’t accept any kind of discrimination in sport.
After Toulouse’s win over Marseille in the French Cup quarter-finals (2-2, penalties 4-3), Pape Diop experienced some unwelcome racism on social media. The 22-year-old Senegalese footballer scored his team’s last penalty, while Ethan Nwaneri then missed his attempt. La Depeche reported this.
A Marseille fan got in touch with the player to say hi and add an emoji of a monkey. “Dirty nigger. Your mother is a whore. I hope you die in your sleep tonight’.
Toulouse stuck up for Diop. The club has released an official statement on the matter, too. After yesterday’s match, Pap Demba Diop was attacked and received racist messages on social media. The entire club and community are united in their support for him following these awful and completely unacceptable attacks.
We strongly condemn all forms of racism and discrimination, which have no place in sport or in our society,” the organisation said in a statement.
