The USA has started a military operation in the Strait of Hormuz. Here’s everything we know about it

The US has announced it’s launching Operation ‘Freedom’ in the Strait of Hormuz to keep shipping safe. CENTCOM is sending destroyers, over 100 aircraft, drones and 15,000 soldiers to the mission. The idea is to free up commercial ships and make sure there’s enough oil to go around, even with all the fighting and Iran being blocked from getting out to sea. The US says that free navigation in this important area is vital for the global economy.

The US has announced a new military mission to make sure shipping in the Strait of Hormuz is safe. The United States Central Command shared this on X. They said they’re starting to support an operation to make sure commercial ships can travel freely in this important area. This means escorting ships that have been blocked during the conflict with Iran, which is getting worse.

CENTCOM has said that this mission is really important for the global economy because a lot of the world’s oil and other resources go through the Strait of Hormuz.

To get the ‘Freedom’ project up and running, the US is going to send in guided-missile destroyers, over a hundred land- and sea-based aircraft, multi-purpose unmanned platforms, and around 15,000 military personnel.

It’s all part of a bigger US plan for the region, especially with the current naval blockade of Iran and all the tension in the Persian Gulf.
