There’s a dangerous volcano erupting in the Philippines at the moment, it’s even flowing down three ravines

In the Philippines, Mount Mayon has risen to alert level 3. As of 3 May, lava has been flowing down three ravines, and there have been ash emissions and ‘Strombolian activity’ recorded. Because of the risk of landslides and lava flows, over 1,500 families have been moved to special centres. The authorities have put a six-kilometre exclusion zone in place, and towns in Albay province are suffering from thick ash that has paralysed transport. Mayon is still one of the country’s most active and dangerous volcanoes.

Mayon Volcano in the Philippine province of Albay reached alert level 3 on 3 May. Lava is flowing down three ravines, and there have been ash emissions and weak Strombolian activity. This was reported by Bloomberg.

Because of the increased volcanic activity, we’ve had to raise the alert level to 3 on the scale that measures it. The Institute of Volcanology’s experts have recorded ‘Strombolian activity’ and short-lived lava eruptions, and they’ve warned the public about the risk of landslides and lava flows.

At the moment, there are over 1,500 families in special evacuation centres, and the authorities are really urging people to stay away from the six-kilometre exclusion zone. In Albay province, a lot of towns have been covered in a thick layer of ash, causing serious disruption to transport.

Mayón is one of the country’s most active volcanoes and a popular tourist attraction, but it now poses a direct threat to the lives of the local population.
