US President Donald Trump was happy about this on his social media platform Truth Social, and thanked Tehran, but he got the name of the strait wrong and called it the ‘Iranian Strait’. The reopening of this important oil route, which sees a third of the world’s oil exports pass through, means we can avoid a global energy crisis.

On Friday (17 April), Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi said on X that the decision was prompted by the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon.
The head of Iran’s foreign ministry has said that passage for all commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz is fully open for the rest of the ceasefire period along the agreed route. This had already been announced by the Ports and Shipping Organisation of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Well, Donald Trump is pretty happy about it, and he’s even thanked Iran for opening the strait, which he somehow called the ‘Iranian Strait’ for some reason.
